Drystone Walling Stone

Grampians Sandstone drystone walling stone is ready to lay walling stone, in random shapes and sizes, that have been pre-split and hand selected especially for mortared and drystone walling.

Typical pieces range from around 200 to 400 mm in size. This style of Grampians Sandstone can be laid in many ways, but is perfect for either genuine dry stone walling or creating mortared walls with deep breaks, to give a dry stone look.

Hand selecting the stone at the quarry not only minimises transport cost and wastage on site, but also saves money and time.

  • For the skilled stonemason, it eliminates unproductive hours selecting and splitting stone from a pile of rubble.
  • For the bricklayer doing stonework, it reduces the scope of the task by providing fairly uniform stone ‘bricks’ to work with.
  • For the amateur wall builder, it means being delivered a pile of varied and beautifully proportioned walling stone, ready to lay, as if a professional stonemason had chosen and prepared it for you.

Grampians Sandstone drystone walling stone can be purchased in quantities from one cubic metre (delivered on a pallet in a bulker bag) to a truckload (approx. 10 cubic metres). As with all our stone, we are happy to source the most economical freight quote for you, wherever your job is located.

And also, as with all our wonderful Victorian sandstone, the benefit of buying a local product means that you get to specify the colour mix. A typical mix is 40% cream, 40% white and 20% red – but feel free to be as artistic as you like!
