Grampians Sandstone is a small sandstone quarry, located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, just north of the town of Dunkeld, in the state of Victoria, Australia. The quarry is adjacent to the magnificent Grampians National Park and is the last true ‘dimension sandstone’ quarry still operating in the state.
While the quarry was only opened a little over 150 years ago, this amazing stone was created by extraordinary events that occurred approximately five hundred and fifty million years previously, on the world’s oldest continent, Australia.
The nearby town on Dunkeld, home of the famous Royal Mail Hotel, is a showcase for the enduring beauty of Grampians Sandstone and a gateway to the many tourist attractions of the magnificent southern Grampians region.
